The Piedmont region is located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Coastal Plain. It' southern border is called the fall line. It is called the "fall" line because it is a dramatic drop in elevation that caused waterfalls to form. The Piedmont is home to Georgia's capital and largest city, Atlanta. It also holds over 50% of Georgia's population. The soil is mostly made of Georgia's famous red clay.
