Tomochichi was the chief of the Yamakraw Indians. The tribe was located in what is now Savannah, Georgia. He is considered the co-founder of Savannah because of his contributions to James Oglethorpe. He gave land to Oglethorpe so that the colony could be established. Tomochichi traveled to England many times and met with English dignitaries. He discussed the demand of his people for education and fair trade. He died on October 5,1739.
