The Salzburgers were protestants that were kicked out of Salzburg, Austria because of their religion. They came to Georgia in search of religious freedom. They didn't believe in slavery so that rule didnt rule didn't affect them. When they got here in 1732, they were given swampy land that was not good for growing crops, they called it Ebenezer. It was humid, hot, and the crops weren't growing. People were dying from fatigue and the fever. Because of this, they moved to a place they named New Ebenezer, which is still there today.
